Tear trough treatment

Developments in advanced aesthetics mean eye bags and dark circles can now be vanished away in less than an hour. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest tear trough treatments

What is tear trough treatment?

Otherwise known as non-surgical eye-bag removal, tear trough treatment focuses on the depressions and droopiness that can appear under the eyes. The skin here is thinner than elsewhere on the face, so as we age and the bone and skin loses density, it can draw the face down and cause eye bags to form. Hollowing out of the eyes can also cause shadows and dark circles to appear, making the face look tired. In younger women, dark circles can be caused by hereditary pigmentation under the eye, as well as lifestyle factors (lack of sleep is a big one!). Whatever the cause of the tear trough, the good news is the issue can be treated painlessly in under an hour, without the need for costly surgery.

Who is tear trough treatment good for?

Anyone who wants to look instantly younger without going under the knife. Dark circles and eye bags both respond well to tear trough treatment, with instant results. It’s worth noting, however, that in some cases dark circles can be caused by an underlying medical condition or nutritional deficiency, so see your doctor first if you’re concerned.

What’s involved in tear trough treatment?

Tear trough treatment is a painless procedure that can be performed in under an hour. The area is first numbed using a topical anaesthetic, before a cannula (a blunt-tipped needle with a tiny hole in it) is inserted into the upper cheek, and gently eased into the area beneath the eye. A filler solution containing hyaluronic acid is then infused into the tissue – hyaluronic acid is the body’s natural moisturiser, effectively drawing water into the area and causing it to plump out from within. At Helen Taylor Aesthetics, we’re careful to perform tear trough treatment in two sessions, four weeks apart, to ensure exactly the right amount of filler is delivered to the area. This minimises swelling and helps ensure the best results. In some cases, only one treatment will be required.

What results can I expect?

You should see an instant plumping out of the area beneath the eyes, refreshing the appearance of your whole face. Wrinkles and eye bags will be minimised and dark circles greatly reduced, if not completely erased. What’s more, the benefits improve over time, lasting up to 12 to 18 months. Regular top ups can be given after this time, to help maintain a youthful appearance.

Boost the benefits

If drooping beneath the eyes is particularly severe, a thread lift can be performed alongside tear trough treatment to boost collagen production, add structure to the cheeks and provide an extra lift.
